“LES CIUDADES DES D10S” is a photographic project that aims to investigate a profound anthropological phenomenon: the pagan cult for Diego Armando Maradona, experienced in the two cities that have turned him into a religious icon: Buenos Aires and Naples.
The eternity evoked by a genius, mad, and legendary football player like “El Pibe de Oro” lives in every corner of these two cities as something mystical and immortal. Diego’s human and footballing epic represents for porteños and partenopei that possibility of redemption that history has always denied them.
The faith that these cities breathe is a collective faith that does not have its roots in the individual lives of each inhabitant but, in an age of extreme individualism, is a shared human heritage among all. The maximum expression of this thought is the murals, iconic images, or small votive altars present in every area and corner of the cities, available to the community. Almost no one feels the need to have a personal “altar” dedicated to the eternal D10S inside their own home, but rather faith is expressed along the “calles,” along the streets, or along the “decumani” of the cities of D10S, where inhabitants of any social background and without gender differences gather and meet to live their creed.
Every “barrio,” every “rione” has created its own murals, its own icons, giving life to a collective movement of sharing, in which all the inhabitants have poured their visceral bond with the eternal D10S. A bond that is perceived to be very strong in every area of these two cities, like a blood bond. So deep that it is felt transversely by people of any age. From children to teenagers, to adults, all the people of the Cities of D10S are grateful and devoted to their D10S.
And it is especially among children that Diego Armando Maradona enjoys boundless love. Because like them, fundamentally he had a pure thought, without superstructures imposed by society and politics, which broke the mold to love his people. And so today in LES CIUDADES DES D10S, thanks to his people, the image of the Argentine champion survives his death and makes him a timeless myth.
